HONOURARY LIFE MEMBERSHIPS
The top award or honour bestowed within the economic development profession in Saskatchewan is Honourary Life Membership. Special services rendered to the Association shall make any active member eligible for honourary life membership.
Such membership shall include all the privileges of membership without payment of dues or fees. Honourary life membership may be proposed by two (2) active members in good standing, present at any general or annual meeting of the Association, and, when such a proposal is put to a vote of the active members in good standing present, it must receive the unanimous consent of the Board of Directors and the majority vote of the voting members present at the next meeting of the membership to become effective.
The following are current Life Members of SEDA:
Harvey Dryden known as “Mr Economic Development”, he scoured the province to find companies with the ability to supply SKPower in the ‘80's. His efforts formed not only the first Supplier Development Program that now other Crown Corporations participate in, but also the foundation of the Buy Saskatchewan Program.
Jack Walker
known as the Godfather of Economic Development at the municipal level as he was involved in Economic Development at a time of its infancy (there were only two departments in the whole province). Jack gave a lot of support to the formation of SEDA.
Phil Haffner
assistant to Jack Walker, they were “Mutt & Jeff”-like in their work in Regina.
Dave Fairlie the consummate negotiator, Dave saw the importance of building the credibility of the Association as a reflection of building the credibility of the profession. He tried to keep the Association (and all its egos) pointed in a direction that achieved a common goal. He was a major contributor to SEDA acting President from 84 - 85.
Gary Moore
assistant to Dave Fairlie, he acted as project trouble-shooter for the organization for 12 or 13 years.
Lynn Shyluk
committed great time and effort to the Association for 12 years with involvements organizing meetings, and acting as Secretary Treasurer. Lynn was a key driving force in the development of the SEDA Introductory Course with Larry Horncastle, Ray Penner, and Wayne Tebbutt. Interestingly, Lynn was the first woman to enroll in the U of W Economic Development Program, and the first woman to obtain her EcD.
Don Jesse
a pioneer in the development of SEDA as a credible Association who came from the Province to work with the City of Regina Department before moving on to immigrant investor funds. He was a major contributor to SEDA acting as President in 86 - 87.
Bob Webb
the CN Economic Development guy for Saskatchewan at a time when CN was very involved in economic development initiatives at every level (in fact, Bob’s boss was the President of EDAC for awhile)
Wayne Standbrook
known affectionately as “Mr Weiner”, he is viewed with the same reverence usually provided a Senator (that sober second thought thing might make a nice play here!). Wayne has a vast background in marketing and was the VP Marketing for Hoover in Canada before joining the economic development profession in North Battleford. He was the first President of SEDA.
Wayne Tebbutt
“Mr Tourism”, from Nipawin, he has an International Walleye Cup as his brainchild and many years of dedication to SEDA as an organization. He was instrumental in the development of the Introductory Course and acted as President of SEDA from 92 - 93. |
